Interesting Combustion Chamber Idea
I would like some other opinions on this. Is what this guy is sayin' true? Similar to a "fire slot" but not quite... I couldn't understand what the guy was saying.....but I did hear this on another forum
" From his testing it does seem to improve BSFC, but doesn't really affect power much. When it does, it's to the tune of like 2-3 ft-lbs of torque. Might be a good idea to try and improve fuel economy in a truck or something? "

Re: Interesting Combustion Chamber Idea
I think I would have to raise the B.S. flag on this one.
The only good thing I saw was the flathead Ford head. I don't like the fire slot, but it shows they are thinking in that their spark plug location is spot on. Also, you can see clearly that they are running more lift on the intake vale and much less on the exhaust valve. The way you cut the valve clearance in the head leaves more compression without sacrificing airflow.

Re: Interesting Combustion Chamber Idea
I did not read the article above, but it is the same guy promoting the same agenda when an article was wrote about him I believe 2 years ago in the Popular Mechanics magazine. I think what they came to the conclusion of in the magazine was, it DID improve HP/Torque, and it did slightly improve fuel economy. What it did NOT do is improve emmisions and THAT is what Ford and Briggs were looking for at the time (I believe Ford & Briggs were the only two companies to send him engines to test with).
I still have that magazine somewhere if I can find it.

Re: Interesting Combustion Chamber Idea
Saw in a magazine a few yrs. back that Ford had built an engine with a Quartz top piston, so that they could film the actions of different combustion chamber/piston combinations, it was mostly in search of better power and emissions.

Yes, that's right- but if that fuel economy can be replaced by burning a "normal" amount of fuel, then...
-right?
