Camping fuel? It has to have a pretty low octain rating, as it will flash very easy.
Then Tractor Tires are filled with methanol? Then presurrized? For some reason I have a hard time beleaving that. Now maybe Ethylene Glycol, But I wouldn't even try and run your carb with it.
Freezeman = Hamblen Farmers CO-OP - Moristown Tn (1-423-586-9141) uses met, another chemical and water to fill tractor tires. They have a metering pump system. Give them a call. Meets EPA requirements.
A lot of the tractor pullers and dirt track racers ( big cars ) buy fuel there.
Tim - ask and make sure your buying Met (Alky). Inquire in your area where the tr pullers and sprint cars buy their fuel. Check Yellow Pages of Phonebook farm supplies & chemicals. ( How about some info on your profile name location.)
Methanol, how much does it cost compared to gas. do you have to drain your tank after you are done racing?
well at current pricing ...........about the same as gasoline if you buy in bulk .....check around with some local round track car racers or even a local dragraceroaffer to combine your orders and purchase bulk .....saves some money
maybe 4-5 teams go together and split a drum
buy once a month?.........fresher is better , also do not store it in a partially full container it will pull moisture from any air space left in the container .......break it down in full jugs when you open the drum , leave no air space and cap it tightly
Pay $3.25 a gallon thru local shop, as others have said it does'nt store very well in small amounts, I usually buy it as needed for that reason. Yes you have to drain and flush after tour done for the day. Aside from having to use it to race at track, for the fun karts I use regular octane gasoline... NOT coleman feul.
3.50 per gallon?? Wow !! Track price around here is always about 3 per gallon. I buy mine at a local distributor for about 1.80 per gallon. If I buy 56 or more gallons it drops to about 1.65 per gallon.
Get this..
0 - 55 gallons is 1.80
56 and up is 1.65
Most 55 gallon drums will hold more than 55 gallons, just enough to get a few gallons for free buy getting 56 instead of 55 gallons.
Digger = Guess these Redneck Hillbillies are greedy. LOL
also all money races and points races are pump around. Charge $2.00, most now getting smarter and come to the grid with a empty tanks. It's a lot easier for the pump-around ppl, check the tanks with a flash lite then let em fill their own tanks to the level wanted. These hillbillies will cheat, but I'm sure in your area no karter would use hot fuel.LOL
K-Mart & Wal-Mart sell a plastic bulb type hand pump that works well for about $3.00 - $4.00.
Regards. Perry
Appco sells some industrial 55 gallon pumps for around 20 - 25 bucks and these are great quality. We bought one from Northern Tool once, it lasted about 4 pumps and broke.

also keep in mind how your "local", track supplier stores it does he just have a 55 gallon drum and has it been sitting half full?
better to buy a month supply and keep it in gallon containers , no airspace and capped tight .....have seen very little degredation over even 6 -8 weeks ....main thing is keep it capped tight
would rather buy 5 gallons stored like this than a gallon every week stored in a half full drum!
I agree, I buy a 55 gallon drum (for resale at local track) and when I get the drum back to the shop I pump it out into 15 gallon poly drums that I can fill up full then squeeze the air out and close the valve. The remaining 5 gallons goes in 1 gallon jugs stored the same way. It is also MUCH easier to move around 15 gallon containers than 55 gallons.
Hey Jamie thats still about 130# lb, you must be young, lean, mean, and strong.LOL
Perry
Gonna have to build something this winter to lift these champ karts with, getting where I can't hardly lift them anymore. Getting old is not user friendly. Don't get old Jamie.
If you putt gas in your briggs tank BE SURE you get it all out before you go racing. I have had to DQ some racers on fuel checks even on pump a round races.(Gas and Methanol don't mix)
I ask all my customers to drain all the fuel out of the tank run the engine out and then use a spray bottle with gas and a little 2 cycle mix to fog the engine down thought the air horn.
Don't forget to change the oil right after and leave clean oil in it.
It depends on who is selling it. I have paid between $3 and $3.25 for a gallon of Methanol. I have went to buying 4 to 6 gallons off track at the Kart shop (Checkerd Flag) where I do business just to make sure I get the same Methanol every time. It may not be a big thing but it just buys me peace of mind. I keep the Methanol in 1 gallon jugs in a controled place and the jugs sealed up until I need to use them.
As far as pumping out a stock tank. I have used a bulb type system that will siphon the Methanol out. But what I am using now is the kind of pump that folks use to pump Kerosene into heaters (the plastic one with a bulb on top) this works the best and is not that expensive.
What if you run an open? How would you flush the tank? I have a tank between the steering shaft. I shut the fuel off after every race is this enogh or should I do more. Runnin a Tilly carb on a Tec Star motor. Thanks MB
Still go and get a pump. Most folks use the type of pump that I use for both Limited tanks (the floor one) and the stock flathead tanks. Like I posted before one like you use to transfer kerosene to a heater works fine and is inexpensive. Besides if your tank is not sealed good you can get mosture in your fuel.
