From Martin Pierce, Speedway owner:
"It is with regret that we must cancel the final MSA Series race scheduled for Huntsville Speedway. A combination of factors including the weather, personal schedule conflicts, lack of a major sponsor, a sagging economy and the low number of reserved parking requests has led to this decision. The Speedway cannot absorb losses due to low car counts. We will look at things for a couple of races next year if the economic situation improves, but nothing is scheduled for karts as of now. We appreciate those who have supported our attempt to bring asphalt kart racing to the North Alabama. Best of luck to everyone in their racing endeavors."
From Louie:
I have spoken with Dallas at Dacosa and aprised him of the situation, please keep an eye out here and at www.DacosaSpeedway.com for a rescheduled race. My sincerest apologies, but I dont own the track. I attempted to contact The Fairgrounds today about possibly holding the race on the 1/4 mile track in Nashville, but the Speedway there has ceased operations. Good luck to everybody,I'll miss the many friends I have made, but my situation leaves little time for it or the headaches. Again I apologize for the delay, but my hands were tied waiting on the owner.
We appreciate everything that you have done...there is nothing you could have done any better...thanks for your efforts...
But as to the way this was done on the other side--what a shame...
Guys, and Ladies....it sure should make us appreciate folks like Dallas and his family, and Donnie Culver as well-at Dacosa Speedway...the other track in this series-who have toughed these things out, even though times have been tough for everybody...and kart counts are down...
Thanks to them for at least making the effort to do what you say you are going to do, and giving us a place to race...
I hope that if they choose to schedule a final race that somehow everyone who can will support it, and maybe even make a point that we DID have a decent final race....
Dallas and Donnie, if you do hold a final race there, we will support it on Friday and Saturday, and whatever else you have...and we will make an effort to bring as many as we can...

Thanks for the kind words all, yes Robert Ill proudly be your "N'bor", lol.Points awards will be handled by Dacosa, I am sending them what I have to give away. I did all that I could to make this happen, even spending money out of my own pockets for the last two races, but given my current employment (or lack thereof) situation, I just dont have it to spend. Even if I WAS working, I dont think I could have put the whole thing on out of my own funds. I am truly heartbroken by all of this, so much so that I am contemplating a sabbatical from racing altogether. I hope that Dallas, Donnie and the crew can make arrangements to finish this deal out, I know it is a dream of his, just sorry that I cant be a part of such a great series. Thanks again for all the support y'all have given ME, it is one of the good memories I will cherish of all of this. Scott, you are a class act, you've been there for me every time, and Ill never forget it. Good luck to everyone, maybe somewhere down the road.........
I'd hate to know we didn't get to see you around the racetrack....we're always glad to get to see you.
These have been the toughest times--racing wise--(and personally, for that matter), that I have seen in my lifetime, but it's all that we enjoy doing....and tracks have suffered as well, I know....
I'm certainly dissapointed--but just because we looked forward to another show on the high banks of Huntsville...if we could just get a good field of karts together--I still think it would be an awesome race...
It's a shame that you have had to answer for others....but I think everybody understands that you have done everything that you could to help to make this work....and we truly appreciate it..
I would love for an asphalt series to take off ...somehow, someway--but times are tough, and we'll all do the best we can....
But more than that--I hope that personally...no matter if you're involved in racing--somehow, or not--that things go well for you....but I hope we get to see you around the racetrack.
We are looking at two different options right now.
Option A:
Making the first race of 2010 a double points race; thus finishing up the 2009 Mid-South Asphalt Series, presented by Firestone Tires, and starting the 2010 Mid-South Asphalt Series.
Option B:
Naming the champions of each class according to how they stand currently, after race #3 - Fall Classic.
Everything I get from Louie that was collected at the Spring Fling will be handled as it was laid out it would be.
As far as running the race this year, it does not look possible. Timing, with all of the big races going on now and later this year, with school (personally as well as with the other racers, with the holiday season, etc.). We appreciate all of the support and look for it in the 2010 season.
Look for the 2010 racing schedule at Dacosa to come out soon. It will include the postponed Dacosa Gives Back Charity Event rescheduled for the spring.
We will kick-off with our Winter Classic IV. The 8th Annual Firecracker Shootout will be held over the July 4th weekend.
Again, thank you for all of the great support we have received. Check www.dacosaspeedway.com and on here for more information.
Just call it as it is. Nobody knows what their schedule will be for next year.
And start the new year off fresh.
Everybody else give your ideas.
I know that Dallas will run the series right next year..
And to OHV racing. I read where he was sending to Dallas, just making sure everybody gets what is owed to them.
He still has not listed what he is sending to Dallas. If you ran in the series you deserve to know what the winners were going to receive.
Maybe look to see who ran all 3 races. If both leaders ran all 3 races then award them both. It is the only fair way to do things.
The problem with series is it starts off great and then something happens at the end. Dallas has done a great job for his two races no problem there.
Yes maybe low kart count and not enough of reserved pit spots. If we go back and look at the first Huntsville race, it was said by lowgroover that the infield pit spots were almost sold out, what a joke. Could have parked plenty of karts if they had showed up.
Go ahead end the series as it stands. Some drivers may be of age to move up a class next year and some may not be able to afford to race next year, no one knows what may happen from now till the next race.
I have no racer in the pool, just a fan that has been to all 3 races.
Racers that did race need to give their honest say in this:
You paid to race, showed up at all 3 races to support the series and you deserve a say in this matter.
I beleive that when the race was cancelled in the beginning, the track owner had no plans of holding the race. If it had been decided at that time then Dallas might have been able to do a makeup race before now.
Dallas make the right call, listen to the drivers that call or email you directly and post on here also.
Looking forward to seeing the series next year, with Dallas running the show it should be to notch.
Given the two options...I would rather call it complete now personally--but I understand that there are others who would like the last race to be run to have a shot at changing their standings.....
To me, the biggest problem with holding it next year is that many of us will want to run different classes next year...as well as the problem of other drivers moving up in class, and they may not have the same engine combination to be able to go back and complete that class....
Not a good situation either way--but there is only so much that Dallas can do...and that is not his fault at all...
I hate it....I really do--we really, really wanted to do the last race...but it seems to me that the best option of what we have left is to move on...and let everyone start fresh next year....
Looking at the points, I think the odds of many classes changing a lot are not likely.....
But I agree, you have to give the purple plate classs to both leaders.....
A few classes are close, but for most of them the champion's know who they are. There will absolutely be no way that I can make everyone happy.
We do have a few sets of Firestone tires that were donated to us at the beginning of the year, by Firestone, that were to be given away at the Fall Fling.
I AGREE WITH aerotec7 LET THE PRIZES BE HANDED OUT FOR THE 3 RACES AND MOVE ON TO NEXT YEAR
I AGREE TOO ...JUST THINK IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO......DALLAS LET US KNOW IF WE CAN DO ANYTHING TO HELP YOU AND YOUR GREAT CREW OUT................BRUCE
"And to OHV racing. I read where he was sending to Dallas, just making sure everybody gets what is owed to them. ~SAME AS LOUIE~

Racers that did race need to give their honest say in this: ~ WE WILL ~
I beleive that when the race was cancelled in the beginning, the track owner had no plans of holding the race. ~ WRONG ANSWER ~ DEALING WITH MORE THAN ANYONE KNOWS ~
If it had been decided at that time then Dallas might have been able to do a makeup race before now. ~ AGREED ~
Thanks for all that supported this series!
~ I enjoyed the fun ~
When I turned the large cars around the track . . . I always thought about taking a kart around it!
and I did!!!!! WE DID!!!!
At the Spring race, 9 out of 13 classes had only 2-3 karts, largest class was 10 (1 class). I have the results sheets if anyone wants to see them. There were approximately 52 out of 58 spaces "sold" to be paid for at the gate, less than 40% were paid for come race day. I made the mistake of taking those racer's word for it by not requiring pre-payment.
Most of those requesting parking didn't show, those people know who they are. I still have the reservation sheets, but I wont make them public on here, I feel that would be low-class.
If the owner wasnt going to run the race, he dang sure would have called it before Wednesday of race week...The call was proper as it DID pour rain here for two days, flooding the infield and causing track "weepers" for two more..it was called to save the racers travel money. The family emergency (legit, but I cant post it without his approval) caused a delay in the cancellation and I am sure the race wasnt his top priority. The first question he asked when he got back was how many spaces were reserved, trying to get an idea of how many to expect. Based on the fact that only 5 spots were reserved, he figured that the count would be too low to even hold a race, a decision that I might not have liked but understood.
I helped put on two races at the Speedway, and you know how much money I made after cell phone bills, tech supplies, gas and paying for things out of my own pocket? Zip!!! Nada! Nothing!! In the Hole!!! BUT, I was willing to do it again because I love seeing the karts drafting on the high-banks. Unfortunately the decision wasn't mine, I dont have the authority to schedule or cancel races. I am sending the 20% of entry fees to Dallas sometime in the next day or two, as well as anything else I can get together to add to the mix.
I do want to thank those who showed up to support the attempt at bringing asphalt karting back, those who have understood the situation and busted their cans to help, and I hope that you enjoyed the racing experience. Maybe after the economy improves there can be an asphalt money race, since it seems that big money is the only way to draw more karts. Parking WILL be pre-paid IF there is another race in the distant future. Best of luck to everyone.
I see that they made a decision on the points and are giving out the awards in January at Dacosa. What if you can't make it in January and what do the champions receive?
My bad folks, here are your champions! Congratulations to everyone who made the races at both Huntsville and Dacosa. We appreciate your support and look for it in the years to come.
We have our 2010 schedule up, it is not complete yet as I am trying to facilitate a few more events at Dacosa in 2010.
