    RIP Bobby Waltrip

Just got word that Bobby Waltrip passed. Don't know much about the details.

    Godspeed, old friend.

PS: The following was posted by Bobby's son-----------

    Hey everyone,

Dad's memorial service will be at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord, NC this Thursday, March 27 at 1 p.m. Dad wanted to be cremated so there will not be a viewing and we will receive guests at the service.

In lieu of flowers please send memorial donations to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation in honor of Connor Waltrip, my son and Bobby's grandson: 302 Ridgefield Court, Asheville, NC 28806 or curethekids.org

Hartsell Funeral Home address: 460 Branchview Dr, Concord, NC 28025. hartsellfh.com

Thank you all for the love and support.

    Lee-Bob Waltrip

This is Bobby's son, Lee-Bob. I was a WKA corner worker and AKRA flagman when my dad was announcing, some of you may remember seeing me around a few years back.

I got a call about 7:30 this evening that he had passed away. I rushed to his house and found that to be the case. The only details I have right now is there was no foul play, no robbery or malicious intent of any kind. A friend of his had gone to pick him up for dinner and got no answer at the door. He called the landlord and the landlord let him in and he was found unconscious in his chair.

The medical examiner is currently trying to determine a cause, not sure if it was cardiac related or a stroke or some other cause. Hopefully tomorrow I will get more details and I will post here for everyone.

My dad loved karting and loved all the karters, he taught me a lot about life and racing. He shared the same passion for racing we all do.

Thank you for your prayers and support.

We remember both you, and Bobby well Lee-Bob. All the kids were very upset when they heard the news. We'll never forget all that you and your father contributed to karting. Much love from #teamriggins.

Well at this moment I'm in a state of shock. Bobby was a dear friend of mine. We shared a lot of great times together over the years and traveled many miles together with our karting events. I'll truly miss my friend, but he'll always be in my best memories of karting and racing. I will also try and keep everyone informed as to the arrangements as we get them. God speed my friend.

My whole family got to know Bobby via the INDOOR NATIONALS at Tunica, then Batesville. For the last few years, my wife Malena helped out at JAM Promotions with promoting the races, and Bobby was a big part of that. He was relentless at teasing and picking at her during that time. I always gave him a pat on the back for doing a job I am too chicken to do! He always had a kind word and a smile for me, the wife, and our kids Tiffany and Wesley. They did several T.V. interviews together, and Bobby always coached them on how to be in front of the media. He will be a fixture missed from family, friends, media, and most of all, karting. Our condolences to the Waltrip family, and God speed Bobby!

I just learned of Bobby Waltrip's passing a bit ago. It saddens me to hear this. Bobby and I did a podcast show together a few years ago when we(Green Fuel Solutions) were a sponsor for the Caged Heat Racing Series. I had done the Bedo's Buggy Talk and Bobby had his other venues going when we wee asked to interview the potential drivers on the air. Bobby was a great help to me in learning more about the professional racing scene and introduced me to a great bunch of up and coming drivers and karters. I'll also remember him for his kindness and support. I will miss him. Godspeed to you Bobby!!
