When you take the stock air filter off what do you put in the hole in the valve cover?

That is where your crankcase vents off pressure. Depending on where you run your kart you should put a small hose on it a vent it into an overflow tank. It has a one way valve inside of it to help keep out contaminates. Some back yard racers just let it blow out on the engine but not a good idea.

Most tracks will make you run a hose to a puke can, just like the Briggs....No big deal.

Screw a 3/8" airhose fitting into the vent hole. It will tap itself in.Then go to autozone or wherever and buy a real small air filter and hose clamp it to the end sticking out.Works for me.

when I removed my stock filter I left the rubber boot on the valve cover and took a piece of cloth and ballooned it around the boot with no oil mess.

My mistake. I just remembered that the ballooned piece of cloth was put on the carb not the valve cover.
I don't remember what I did to the valve cover.

Most tracks and WKA rules state that you must have an overflow container. Most of us refer to this as a puke can. You can make one out of a 20 ounce soda bottle. Just poke a hole in the top and stick your vent hose into the bottle and just zip tie it to the seat strut. This is the cheapest way to do it and it is legal at just about any track.

If you want to go the better route, you can buy a nice billet or plastic one at your favorite kart shop for about 15 bucks. That one usually comes with hose clamps to mount to your seat strut or some of the better ones mount to the brake caliper bolts, but those are usually more and not nessasary. The soda bottle one is actually a better one as you can easily see if anything is being pushed out of your engine, and it can warn you of trouble.
